Marine west coast: mild with warm summer and dry winter. The coldest month averages between freezing and 18° C (64.4° F) and the hottest month averages between 10° C (50° F) and 22° C (71.6° F). Annual rainfall varies by season -- wetter in summer, dryer in winter -- and totals 25 cm (10") to 100 cm (39"). Vegetation is dominated by the veldt: grasses and other herbaceous plants with few trees or, in some areas, mixed with broadleaf deciduous trees.
