Mediterranean: mild with hot, dry summer. The coldest month averages between freezing and 18° C (64.4° F) and the hottest month averages warmer than 22° C (71.6° F). Annual rainfall varies by season -- drier in summer, wetter in winter -- and totals not less than 25 cm (10") nor more than 200 cm (79"), though 50 cm (19") to 100 cm (39") is more typical. Vegetation is predominantly mixed broadleaf deciduous and needleleaf evergreen forests, though broadleaf evergreen forests (including chaparral, macchia, and mallee) are common; grasses and herbaceous plants, usually with patches of broadleaf evergreen trees, may also be found.
