Humid continental: humid with hot summer and severe, dry winter. The coldest month averages between freezing and –38° C (–36.4° F) and the hottest month averages above 22° C (71.6° F). Annual rainfall varies by season -- wetter in summer, dryer in winter -- and totals not less than 25 cm (10"), though 50 cm (19") to 100 cm (39") is more typical. Vegetation is hardy: grasses and herbaceous plants with few trees or low, sparse broadleaf evergreen shrubland.
